Well done to all those swimmers that have achieved PBs and qualification times for the Surrey Championships. All swimmers should have received an e-mail showing their current times and the Championship qualifying time. Those who are within 10% of their target stand a very good chance of getting the target time, but remember this has to be achieved at a certified meet. Next year there is a final chance to qualify at the end of January. Club Champs Day 2

Top coach joins Farnham
16/05/09 20:39

We would like to welcome our new coach, Sergei Gloushkov, to the club. He is a highly qualified international coach who moved to Farnham last December with his wife, who has been put in charge of the British Synchronised Swimming Team based in Aldershot. Sergei is originally from Russia where he was National Junior Champion at the 200m Breaststroke and a member of the USSR swimming team at a time when swimming was supported by the communist regime.
After a successful swimming career he moved into coaching. His first club were Russian champions in 1991, he then moved to Greece where his club were Greek champions for 4 years in a row. In 1994 he moved to Israel where his was equally successful, and his club were again national champions.
Sergei has also taken swimmers to the European and World Championships.
I am sure you will agree that we are very lucky to have him coaching our best junior swimmers and you will make him very welcome.

Farnham Swimming Club win Division 2.
25/01/09 21:02
Farnham Swimming Club went to Southampton to compete against the other top teams in Division 2; Littlehampton, Rushmoor Royals B, Chalfont, West Wight and the Isle of Wight.
Although Littlehampton went into the evening slightly ahead on points Farnham knew a good team performance could see the championship coming back to Surrey. Despite a plague of chest infections of almost biblical proportions all the competitors were at poolside resplendent in red stetsons provided by Ellie Walton.
Becky Fisher got the competition off to a great start with a win in the 100m IM in a club record of 1:09.56. The first batch of relays set the pattern for the evening with all the girls teams winning their age groups. The U11 girls Freestyle Relay team: Lucy Peters, Amelia Oury, Amie Jones and Pippa Littlejohn started things off with a great win. The U14 boys Medley Relay team: Rhys Davies, Jack Peters, James Butcher and Omar Bourak were not to be out done and won their race. The under 15 girls free style team of Becky Fisher, Alex Leonard, Catherine Jeffries and Addy Vachon followed that up with a very impressive win, coming home by a
clear length.
Alex Leonard was soon back in the pool winning the U16y 100m backstroke in an impressive 1:12.53s only to be upstaged by Ellie Walton who won the U14y 100m backstroke in 1:08.50s, nearly a full length ahead of her nearest rival, she would probably still have won while wearing her stetson. Katherine Brown kept up the winning streak in the Open 100m butterfly in 1:13.32s and Lucy Peters followed that with a win in the U12 50m butterfly in 36.06s. Jack Peters got the boys their first win in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:16.50s and Connor Price followed that with a win in the U16 100m Freestyle in 1:00.15s. Addy Vachon is always a reliable banker of points and she did not disappoint cruising to wins in the U16 100m butterfly and freestyle in 1:08.44s and 1:03.54s and she then won the Open 100m Freestyle in 1:01.32. By this time Farnham had established a solid 12 point lead over Littlehampton, and wins for Natalie Jones in the U14y 100m Freestyle in 1:06.57s and for Becky Fisher in the U16y 100m Breaststroke in 1:21.09s kept Farnham ahead.
Second places from Amelia Oury in the U12 50m backstroke, Jack Peters in the U14 Breaststroke, Katherine Browne in the Open 100m Breaststroke, Pippa Littlejohn in the U12 50m Freestyle and Josh Wreford in the Open 100m Freestyle kept up the lead heading into the final relays.
The girls were again in top form with the U14 girls: Natalie Jones, Jess Wreford, Sam Rees-Clark and Ellie Walton winning their Freestyle relay. There were some worrying moments when the Boys open squad were disqualified and the U12 girls did not finish when one member of the team swallowed half the pool, but the lead was too great and Farnham won by 12 points. Head coach, Marilyn Flook, was delighted with the performance “The team has worked hard over the last two years to get to this moment and theyfully deserved to win.” Farnham have now been promoted to Division 1, if you would like to help them to another win please contact us through the website at www.farnhamsc.co.uk.
